Before you start, make sure you know where you want to do the handwashing.

The best easy and simple way to make your handwashing uncomplicated is by using the right location and tools.
I either use my basement sink or a clear plastic tote which I put on a table to help with my back while hand washing.

Use a mild and gentle detergent on your clothes. I use different liquid detergents depending on how I want my shirt or clothes to smell.

I love to use Tide Simple Oxi For most of my washing because it smells good and removes stains fast.
I add a bar soap to my washing. I turn to use Zote bar soap because it’s gentle on clothes and has a good smell to clothes.
As you have options for what to wash your shirt or clothe in, I either use a basement sink, a bucket, or a tote. This clear plastic tote makes it easy to hand wash which I love.
I like to use a folding wood table where I put my tote on whenever I decided to use a clear plastic tote to hand wash any clothes. The table also helps with your back as you hand wash by standing.
Not many will agree with this but I sometimes use 1/8 cup of non-bleach around the collar of a shirt to remove hard stains.
Poor on the bleach and start washing the collar right away so it doesn’t bleach the color out of the shirt.
You need a clothespin if you decided to hand dry your shirt or clothes. These wood pins hold great and I like using them to hang clothes either outside or indoors.
you need a clothesline to hang your washed clothes on. You can have one in your basement, outside, or where it’s convenient for you.

How To Wash Clothes By Hand Step-by-Step
- Always read the shirt label inside to know what are the washing guidelines to make sure your clothes are not ruined by washing in the wrong way.
- Now is time to set your plastic tote on the folding table.
- Fill the tote with lukewarm water to the middle level depending on how many shirts you’re hand washing.
- Add your liquid detergent to the water.
- Now add your shirts to the soapy water, submerge them and leave them to soak for 30 minutes before you wash them.
6. After 30 minutes, is now time to start washing. I always wash my clothes in 3 simple steps.
Step 2 First Wash:
How To Wash Clothes By Hand With Bar Soap
1. Now with both hands take one piece of shirt, start from both armpits of the shirt, rub bar soap on them scrub one armpit in between your hands to get the stains and sweat out.
Once both armpits are done. Move on to the collar of the shirt and rob that as well, remember to wash both ends of the shirt sleeves.
At this time, you wash the whole shirt, gently squeeze the water out, and move on to the next piece of shirt.
Repeat this process until all shirts are washed nicely, also be gentle with squeezing the shirt. Throw away the soapy water.
Step 3: Second Wash:
Hand Washing Clothes Hacks
1. For this second wash. At this stage, I just give the shirts a rough wash fill the tote with new lukewarm water to the same level as the first step.
Not adding any more soap you could but because you still have a lot of soapy scum in the shirts so just a rough wash is the best way to go until every piece is washed and squeeze. Throw this water away as well.
Step 4: Third Wash – Rinse Time:

1. Fill the tote with new lukewarm water up to ¾ this time, add all the washed shirts and just rinse them one by one until all is done.
Step 5. Drying Time:
How To Dry Hand-washed clothes:
1. Now is time to dry your hand-washed shirts. You can choose to dry them outside or indoors depending on how is the weather where you live.
I normally dry my clothes outside during the summer and indoors during the winter.
Once you decided where to dry them, pick one piece of shirt shake it 1-2 times to straighten it up, hang it by holding it in
place by the clothespin on both sides of the collar, and repeat these processes to hang all the shirts, and you’re done!
If you don’t have a place to put up a clothesline to hang on, you can get folding collapsible clothes drying rack here to use instead.
You now have clean washed shirts and did it by hand washing. As you’ve gone through the hand washing process, you’ve realized that it’s an easy process to follow.
For most of my life, washing clothes by hand is all I know because my family never owned a dryer or a washer.

Use gentle detergent on your clothes to still keep the natural colors. Adding bar soap like Zote is great for your clothes it keeps them smelling fresh and soft.

After hand washing applies a Vaseline gel to your hands to keep them moisturized as the soap water makes your hands dry and the Vaseline helps keep them moist from drying out. You can later use your hand cream.

Yes, clothes do get clean by hand washing. With my own experience in washing or doing laundry by hand; I can tell you that.
Your clothes get cleaner by hand washing than using the washing machine.
This is my personal opinion because I hand wash a lot and see the differences between the machine wash and a hand wash. Each time I hand wash my clothes, it feels crispy and I like that.

Personally, I’ve hand-washed a shirt in a sink before and to hand-wash a shirt in a sink is a simple process.
1. Read shirt label for washing guidelines. Make sure you choose the right sink for your laundry. Bathroom sink, basement sink, or kitchen sink?
2. Fill the sink with lukewarm water, add detergent or use bar soap, add your shirts, with two hands rub the shirt between your hand starting with both armpits, collar, once done, drain the water.
3. Add new water to the sink for a rough second wash after this second wash drain water.
4. Add new water again to the sink and this time rinse your shirt and dry them.
How Can I Wash My Shirt Without A Washing Machine?
You can use your hands to wash your shirt without a washing machine. You can also use a washing board to wash your shirt.
The easiest way to do this is just using your hands to wash your shirt.
Is It OK To Wash Clothes Without Detergent?
You don’t necessarily need to use a detergent to wash. You can use bar soap or powdered soap to wash with.
But there’s no way to get your clothes washed clean without using any washing soap. Simple water with no bar soap or powdered soap will not get your clothes clean.
Can I Wash Clothes With Dish Soap?
Dish soap is meant for washing your dishes with, it’s strong on cleaning tough stains and oil.
It’s not advisable to use dish soap to wash your clothes. You can use gentle hand soap or shampoo.
And remember dish soap will be very hushed on your clothes and you don’t want that.

The best way to wash clothes is to read the label for guidelines and fill the sink with lukewarm water to the tub, bucket, washer, or storage tote.
Add detergents, add clothes, soak for 30 minutes, washed with both hands one piece at a time until all is done.
Fill new lukewarm water, add clothes, with both hands, and rough wash with less soap or no soap until all is done.
Fill again with new water and just rinse your clothes, dry them, and after it’s all dry, fold them, and that’s it.
Now, if you’re using a washer, read the label on your clothes to make sure you’re washing right, add water at the right
temperature, add detergent, add clothes, soaked for 30 minutes, then turn on the washer.
After the cycle is done, put your clothes in the dryer, after it’s done fold them and you’re all done.
