HP standard printers are available without the benefits of Instant Ink. While installing HP Smart, you can refer to your printer’s setup poster or postcard. You’ll learn how to connect wi-fi to HP printer fast and easy!
To successfully set up your printer, gather the following materials and information:
- Ensure a computer is running the latest version of Windows 10 and connected to the wireless network to your printer.
- An HP printer, powered on and in a ready state, an active internet connection, and the wireless network password or critical id your network requires.
Note:
To set up and use your printer, it must always be connected to the internet or have a Wi-fi connection.
Step by Step
1. Proceeds to 123.hp.com. open the browser on your computer
2. Type your printer model into the search field and select your model from the list.
3. Click on Next.
4. On the webpage that opens, click on Install HP Smart. If prompted, in the pop-up notification, click on Open Microsoft Store.
5. From the Microsoft store results, click on HP Smart. On the HP Smart page in Microsoft Store, click on Install. Let the app finish installing, then click on Launch.
6. On the HP Smart Welcome screen, review the terms of use and click on Continue to proceed further.
7. You can choose to help make HP Smart better by sharing usage data, but it is not required.
8. Click on Yes or No to continue.
Note:
HP Smart only detects printers connected to the same network as your Windows computer or those in Setup mode.
Setup mode activates the first time you turn on your printer and lasts two hours. If It has been over two hours since you first turned on your printer, reset the printer network settings.
How To Reset The Printer Network Settings For A Printer With A Touch Display
- Swipe down to open the control panel Dashboard.
- Touch the gear icon, then touch Network Setup, and then touch Restore Network Settings. When prompted, connect Yes.
How To Reset The Printer’s Network Settings For Printers Without A Touch Display
- Press the cancel button to wake the printer from sleep mode.
- Press, hold the wireless, and cancel buttons simultaneously for five seconds.
For LaserJet Pro printers
- Press the Wireless button until the Ready and Attention lights blink simultaneously. Release the buttons to restore Setup Mode.
For Printers With Front-Edge Lighting
- Press the wi-fi button on the printer’s rear for five seconds.
- When the printer Network Settings are reset, the front-edge lighting will pulse and change color.
Note:
Some older printers might not support Setup Mode, so you must manually connect it to the network.
For printers with a touch display, use the Wireless Setup Wizard to connect your printer to the network. This process easily connect your wi-fi to the printer.
For Older Printers Without Touch Displays
- Press & hold the Wireless Button on your printer for five seconds or until the wireless light blinks.
- Then, within two minutes, press and hold the wi-fi Protected Setup, or WPS button, on your router for five seconds. Once your printer is set up, return to your Windows 10 computer.

How To Setup A New Printer With HP Smart.
1. Click on Set up a New Printer. HP Smart will now search for your printer. When it finds the printer, it will show on the screen.
2. Click on Set Up. HP Smart will confirm that it is ready to set up your printer.
3. Click on Continue.
4. HP Smart will ask for your wi-fi password to access the wireless network you are currently connected to.
5. Click on Continue.
HP Smart begins connecting your printer to the wireless network. For security, you will need to confirm your proximity to the printer.
Note:
1. If your printer doesn’t have a touch screen: Press the Information button on the printer.
2. If your printer does have a touch screen: Tap the checkmark on the printer display.
3. HP Smart will confirm when it finishes connecting the printer to the wireless network.
4. Click on Continue.
To provide printing and cloud services, data is collected from your printer to sync your HP Smart app and HP account.
5. Click on Continue.
**Your HP+ printer comes with an optional Instant Ink Trial.
How To Create HP Account?
- Click Continue.
- For your printer to operate after activating HP or HP+, you must be signed in to your HP account, be connected to the internet, and only use HP original ink.
- Click Activate HP.
- For An HP Account sign-up page displays.
- Fill and complete out the information and click Create Account to create a new HP account.
How To Sign In To An Existing HP Account
- Scroll down and select Sign In.
- Enter your email and password as required on the next page and click Sign In.
- Your HP Smart account helps you manage your services and connected printers.
- HP Smart will register your HP+ printer with your HP Account. You can either choose to accept or skip the HP or HP+ offer.

Accepting HP Or HP+ Offer
- Select Continue to sign up for an Instant Ink plan.
- Choose your preferred method, then provide a shipping address and billing details.
- Your HP+ subscription is now complete.
- Click Continue.
- HP Smart will then direct you through the remaining prompts to finish setting up your printer.

These steps may vary depending on your specific printer model; follow the prompts to complete the process, including setting up any available services or software.

- Click Skip this step for now.
Your HP printer setup is now complete. You can now print pages.
- Click Skip Printing Page for now.
HP Smart will return to the home screen and show your printer in the Ready status with a green check mark.
